Narrative:

This incident occurred while taxiing to runway 9 at bos. We crossed 4L from the outer. Looking at the airport diagram it appeared that taxiway south went through the approach overrun of runway 9, so I looked to the taxiway signs for assistance. Taxiing into position on runway 9 from X, I realized it was too far down the runway and by this time tower realized that I was on the wrong taxiway. Since an aircraft was landing 4R, they perhaps might have gotten concerned. I would recommend remarking the taxiway signs to assist other pilots in times of limited visibility and at night.
