Narrative:

Taxiing from the FBO ramp to runway 33, we were completing checklist items promptly due to the short taxi. As we approached the 'runway 33 approach' red sign, I questioned the first officer if that is where they wanted us to hold, as it seemed quite a good distance from the runway. He responded that we should keep going as the taxiway did continue and he believed the line to be the 'ILS hold.' just as we were crossing the line, I realized that it was in fact the runway hold short line. I stopped the aircraft and the tower controller noticed our location and verified that we were across the hold line. The fact that it was dark and the taxiway continues straight ahead and over the overrun of runway 33, made the situation confusing as there are no white runway lights that intersect the taxiway lights. This would be a great place to have runway guard lights or stop bars in place.
