Narrative:

MD80 aircraft cowlings are being sanded and painted not according to the manual. Cowlings are being painted but not sanded properly. A majority of cowlings have multiple layers of paint, which causes cracking, pitting, and makes them hard to check for delamination. Manual states they should be sanded to the last layer of primer.

Narrative: MD80 ACFT COWLINGS ARE BEING SANDED AND PAINTED NOT ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL. COWLINGS ARE BEING PAINTED BUT NOT SANDED PROPERLY. A MAJORITY OF COWLINGS HAVE MULTIPLE LAYERS OF PAINT, WHICH CAUSES CRACKING, PITTING, AND MAKES THEM HARD TO CHK FOR DELAMINATION. MANUAL STATES THEY SHOULD BE SANDED TO THE LAST LAYER OF PRIMER.
