Narrative:

From fcm to 8y6, I was flying at 2800 ft AGL (10 NM visibility), I started to descend in preparation to land at 8y6. I leveled at 2000 ft AGL, 10 NM from 8y6. I looked at the before landing checklist (head in the cockpit). When I looked outside the cockpit (after 10-15 seconds), I saw a monney at my altitude, coming head-on at my aircraft, about 1/4 NM out. We passed wing tip to wing tip, with about 5 ft to 10 ft separation. I think this occurred because I had my head in the cockpit reading a checklist. I could have had the passenger read the checklist.
