Narrative:

Upon rolling out from landing on runway 30L at sjc, the controller said 'turn on taxiway J, cross runway 30R and contact ground on the other side.' the PIC who was the PF turned left on taxiway J and crossed runway 29. I, the sic and PNF, had my head down doing the after landing checklist. The FBO we were going to required a right turn off the runway, which made the controller issue those taxi instructions, even though he didn't say turn right on taxiway J. He said turn on taxiway J. I didn't think anything of the wrong turn, since the PIC said he was based at sjc for 20 yrs. There is also quite a distance on taxiway J, between runway 30L and runway 29., we were taxiing slow and the controller should have been able to stop us when we made the wrong turn, since I assume he had his attention on us while we were exiting the runway. He had to in order to know we would be able to exit on taxiway J.
