Narrative:

On mar/mon/02, while working an first officer's flight director mode annunciator light problem I mistakenly used an autoplt deferral from the MEL book. Later, while entering the deferred log page into our computer tracking system, I realized my mistake and when the aircraft returned from the flight I cleared the log deferral with notes that the deferral was incorrectly chosen. I then re-wrote the original write-up verbatim, and it was repaired by new parts (not re-deferred). I believe a slight delay was taken on the departure but no other effects were reported by my department or flight department. Safety was not compromised. The original problem was simply that an annunciator light was incorrectly placarded (lens placard). The light operation was normal and its relation with the aircraft instruments was normal. The lens cover was placarded incorrectly and so that was the ultimate repair. Time was short for me when I worked the problem originally. I had believed I was correct in my deferral.

Title: DC9-30 MECH MADE A PAPERWORK ERROR WHEN ENTERING A DEFERRED ITEM INTO THE ACR MAINT COMPUTER. THE MEL PLACARD SHOWED THE WRONG ACFT SYS.

Narrative: ON MAR/MON/02, WHILE WORKING AN FO'S FLT DIRECTOR MODE ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT PROB I MISTAKENLY USED AN AUTOPLT DEFERRAL FROM THE MEL BOOK. LATER, WHILE ENTERING THE DEFERRED LOG PAGE INTO OUR COMPUTER TRACKING SYS, I REALIZED MY MISTAKE AND WHEN THE ACFT RETURNED FROM THE FLT I CLRED THE LOG DEFERRAL WITH NOTES THAT THE DEFERRAL WAS INCORRECTLY CHOSEN. I THEN RE-WROTE THE ORIGINAL WRITE-UP VERBATIM, AND IT WAS REPAIRED BY NEW PARTS (NOT RE-DEFERRED). I BELIEVE A SLIGHT DELAY WAS TAKEN ON THE DEP BUT NO OTHER EFFECTS WERE RPTED BY MY DEPT OR FLT DEPT. SAFETY WAS NOT COMPROMISED. THE ORIGINAL PROB WAS SIMPLY THAT AN ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT WAS INCORRECTLY PLACARDED (LENS PLACARD). THE LIGHT OP WAS NORMAL AND ITS RELATION WITH THE ACFT INSTS WAS NORMAL. THE LENS COVER WAS PLACARDED INCORRECTLY AND SO THAT WAS THE ULTIMATE REPAIR. TIME WAS SHORT FOR ME WHEN I WORKED THE PROB ORIGINALLY. I HAD BELIEVED I WAS CORRECT IN MY DEFERRAL.
