Narrative:

Frequency 135.0, utilized by the local northwest position has been exhibiting characteristics similar to those that would occur in the case of a stuck microphone or sun spot. Complaints from pilots occur on a daily basis. Because immediate and accurate communication between ATC and pilots is necessary and sometimes crucial, this frequency problem constitutes an extremely unacceptable and potentially dangerous situation. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: after this report was submitted, maintenance established that there was a problem and terminated and discontinued frequency usage. The reporter was not advised of the exact cause of the problem.

Title: DTW CTLR CONCERNED WITH LCL CTL, NW FREQ INTERFERENCE.

Narrative: FREQ 135.0, UTILIZED BY THE LCL NW POS HAS BEEN EXHIBITING CHARACTERISTICS SIMILAR TO THOSE THAT WOULD OCCUR IN THE CASE OF A STUCK MIKE OR SUN SPOT. COMPLAINTS FROM PLTS OCCUR ON A DAILY BASIS. BECAUSE IMMEDIATE AND ACCURATE COM BTWN ATC AND PLTS IS NECESSARY AND SOMETIMES CRUCIAL, THIS FREQ PROB CONSTITUTES AN EXTREMELY UNACCEPTABLE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SIT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: AFTER THIS RPT WAS SUBMITTED, MAINT ESTABLISHED THAT THERE WAS A PROB AND TERMINATED AND DISCONTINUED FREQ USAGE. THE RPTR WAS NOT ADVISED OF THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE PROB.
