Narrative:

I installed the wrong AC generator control panel on aircraft. I ordered the part using the manufacturer's part on the original panel. However, the new panel was slightly different with the galley power switches. The new panel crossed with the old part number, but they were different. I believe that if the original panel had a correct part number on it, I would have not had this problem. The pilots discovered that the galley power was inoperative and after further investigation, it was discovered that I installed the wrong panel. Also, apparently, this aircraft requires a panel that is only used on a very few of the B727's. A new, correct panel was installed and aircraft was continued in service.

Title: A B727-200 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE INCORRECT AC GENERATOR CTL PANEL INSTALLED CAUSED BY PART NUMBER CONFUSION.

Narrative: I INSTALLED THE WRONG AC GENERATOR CTL PANEL ON ACFT. I ORDERED THE PART USING THE MANUFACTURER'S PART ON THE ORIGINAL PANEL. HOWEVER, THE NEW PANEL WAS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT WITH THE GALLEY PWR SWITCHES. THE NEW PANEL CROSSED WITH THE OLD PART NUMBER, BUT THEY WERE DIFFERENT. I BELIEVE THAT IF THE ORIGINAL PANEL HAD A CORRECT PART NUMBER ON IT, I WOULD HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROB. THE PLTS DISCOVERED THAT THE GALLEY PWR WAS INOP AND AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT I INSTALLED THE WRONG PANEL. ALSO, APPARENTLY, THIS ACFT REQUIRES A PANEL THAT IS ONLY USED ON A VERY FEW OF THE B727'S. A NEW, CORRECT PANEL WAS INSTALLED AND ACFT WAS CONTINUED IN SVC.
