Grounded on 9/tue/01 by national emergency. Landed at non controlled airport. Checked with great falls FSS daily for flight clearance. Advised part 91 VFR flight would commence XA00 mtn 9/thu/01 by great falls FSS. Confirmed by FBO at airport. Departed XA20 mtn time wbound for everett, wa, pae. Reaching 10500 MSL contacted seattle center ATC for flight following. Told airspace was still closed by ATC. Advised closest open airport was spokane international, wa. Proceed direct spokane and landed. Failure was to rely on FBO information. I should have checked with FSS prior to departure.
