Narrative:

I departed mmu on a local scenic flight. I immediately contacted ewr tower on 127.85 and requested clearance to enter class B airspace. Ewr tower instructed me to report 10 mi west of the airport at route 78. I misunderstood the boundaries of the class B airspace and misidented route 78, unintentionally penetrating the class B airspace before receiving clearance to enter. Being relatively new to the area and unfamiliar with the terrain and landmarks east of morristown contributed to my error. A detailed briefing of the area and the landmarks east of morristown, and 1 or 2 familiarization flts through the area will prevent a recurrence of the problem.
