Narrative:

On descent to lax with autoplt on, PF noticed 16240 ft, was indicated after intermediate altitude was changed from FL230 to 16000 ft by ATC. Correction was made back to 16000 ft with autoplt disconnected when ATC questioned altitude. No other aircraft in vicinity. Leveled aircraft at 16000 ft and flight continued uneventfully.

Narrative: ON DSCNT TO LAX WITH AUTOPLT ON, PF NOTICED 16240 FT, WAS INDICATED AFTER INTERMEDIATE ALT WAS CHANGED FROM FL230 TO 16000 FT BY ATC. CORRECTION WAS MADE BACK TO 16000 FT WITH AUTOPLT DISCONNECTED WHEN ATC QUESTIONED ALT. NO OTHER ACFT IN VICINITY. LEVELED ACFT AT 16000 FT AND FLT CONTINUED UNEVENTFULLY.
