Narrative:
While conducting cockpit checklist and checking that the manual override was properly stowed, the manual override ctrl lever/knob came off, threaded metal ring and internal spring remained in the aft position. This condition rendered the system inoperative. System inspected and re-assembled. Lever/knob checked for proper operation -- checked ok. This aircraft just came out of factory phase I and ii inspections. Malfunction or defect report has been filed. Supplemental information from acn 508972: student noted during cockpit checks that both GPS databases were out-of-date.
