Narrative:

During taxi out for takeoff out of boston, we were given clearance to taxi via taxiway C, taxiway D, hold short of runway 33L. During taxi, we were then given clearance to taxi across runway 33L, taxiway D to runway 27. During taxi, the first officer had duties that included cockpit work to obtain a new tps, load the FMC with the new data, and prepare for a required navigation system update prior to takeoff for our departure, as well as the takeoff checklist. On taxiway D, approaching taxiway D1, an air carrier X B737 was observed on taxiway D1, holding short of runway 27. Although the aircraft was not all the way up to the hold short line, I felt there was more than adequate clearance to continue, and in fact moved slightly to the left of the taxiway centerline, away from the other aircraft, slowed down, and continued. A jolt or bump was felt by both of us. We questioned each other if it could have been the brakes, a bump on the taxiway, or a taxiway centerline light. I was unsure what it was, and stopped the aircraft. Air carrier X then called and reported to tower that their aircraft had been hit. I checked with the flight attendants to see what they knew or had observed, and make sure everything was ok in the cabin. Tower sent emergency vehicles out to check both aircraft, after which we returned to the gate. At the time of the incident, approximately XB00 local, the sun was generally behind the other aircraft, causing glare against our windscreen. Supplemental information from acn 507629: our taxi outbound from the ramp area was routine. Ground gave us clearance to taxi via taxiway C, taxiway D, hold short of runway 33L. We proceeded with that clearance. During taxi to runway 33L we were cleared by ground to cross runway 33L and proceed to runway 27 via taxiway D and instructed to switch to tower frequency. During taxi, we accomplished the taxi checklist. Since runway 27 was not listed on our tps, I requested a new tps via ACARS for runway 27. The new tps finished printing about the time we turned from taxiway C onto taxiway D. I manually set the numbers for takeoff and initiated the takeoff checklist. We crossed runway 33L and proceeded down taxiway D. We accomplished the takeoff checklist down to takeoff PA. Approaching taxiway D1 while still on taxiway D, I noticed an aircraft holding short of runway 27 at taxiway D1. Although the sun was creating glare on the windscreen, there appeared to be ample space behind the other aircraft for us to pass and no apparent reason for us not to continue taxiing. Because takeoff was imminent (prior to passing the aircraft) the captain instructed me update the computer (QA27) data for our navigation-realign at the hold short for runway 27. I was in the process of updating the computer while we taxied past the aircraft holding short on taxiway D1. Immediately after pressing in QA27 on the scratch pad, I felt a tug and turned to the captain. I asked him if he felt the tug and had he perhaps tapped the brakes. He told me he did feel the tub, but he had not applied the brakes. He then brought the aircraft to a stop on taxiway D when we heard the other aircraft call the tower to say he thought we had struck them from behind. The captain asked the flight attendants if they felt anything and to look out at the right wing for any hazard. Within seconds, the ground emergency crew was on the scene to inspect the damage. They reported damage, but no hazard. We were cleared to taxi back for parking shortly thereafter. We taxied back with no further incident.

Title: A B767 CREW MISJUDGED WINGTIP CLRNC, MAKING CONTACT WITH ANOTHER ACFT.

Narrative: DURING TAXI OUT FOR TKOF OUT OF BOSTON, WE WERE GIVEN CLRNC TO TAXI VIA TXWY C, TXWY D, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 33L. DURING TAXI, WE WERE THEN GIVEN CLRNC TO TAXI ACROSS RWY 33L, TXWY D TO RWY 27. DURING TAXI, THE FO HAD DUTIES THAT INCLUDED COCKPIT WORK TO OBTAIN A NEW TPS, LOAD THE FMC WITH THE NEW DATA, AND PREPARE FOR A REQUIRED NAV SYS UPDATE PRIOR TO TKOF FOR OUR DEP, AS WELL AS THE TKOF CHKLIST. ON TXWY D, APCHING TXWY D1, AN ACR X B737 WAS OBSERVED ON TXWY D1, HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 27. ALTHOUGH THE ACFT WAS NOT ALL THE WAY UP TO THE HOLD SHORT LINE, I FELT THERE WAS MORE THAN ADEQUATE CLRNC TO CONTINUE, AND IN FACT MOVED SLIGHTLY TO THE L OF THE TXWY CTRLINE, AWAY FROM THE OTHER ACFT, SLOWED DOWN, AND CONTINUED. A JOLT OR BUMP WAS FELT BY BOTH OF US. WE QUESTIONED EACH OTHER IF IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE BRAKES, A BUMP ON THE TXWY, OR A TXWY CTRLINE LIGHT. I WAS UNSURE WHAT IT WAS, AND STOPPED THE ACFT. ACR X THEN CALLED AND RPTED TO TWR THAT THEIR ACFT HAD BEEN HIT. I CHKED WITH THE FLT ATTENDANTS TO SEE WHAT THEY KNEW OR HAD OBSERVED, AND MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS OK IN THE CABIN. TWR SENT EMER VEHICLES OUT TO CHK BOTH ACFT, AFTER WHICH WE RETURNED TO THE GATE. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, APPROX XB00 LCL, THE SUN WAS GENERALLY BEHIND THE OTHER ACFT, CAUSING GLARE AGAINST OUR WINDSCREEN. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 507629: OUR TAXI OUTBOUND FROM THE RAMP AREA WAS ROUTINE. GND GAVE US CLRNC TO TAXI VIA TXWY C, TXWY D, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 33L. WE PROCEEDED WITH THAT CLRNC. DURING TAXI TO RWY 33L WE WERE CLRED BY GND TO CROSS RWY 33L AND PROCEED TO RWY 27 VIA TXWY D AND INSTRUCTED TO SWITCH TO TWR FREQ. DURING TAXI, WE ACCOMPLISHED THE TAXI CHKLIST. SINCE RWY 27 WAS NOT LISTED ON OUR TPS, I REQUESTED A NEW TPS VIA ACARS FOR RWY 27. THE NEW TPS FINISHED PRINTING ABOUT THE TIME WE TURNED FROM TXWY C ONTO TXWY D. I MANUALLY SET THE NUMBERS FOR TKOF AND INITIATED THE TKOF CHKLIST. WE CROSSED RWY 33L AND PROCEEDED DOWN TXWY D. WE ACCOMPLISHED THE TKOF CHKLIST DOWN TO TKOF PA. APCHING TXWY D1 WHILE STILL ON TXWY D, I NOTICED AN ACFT HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 27 AT TXWY D1. ALTHOUGH THE SUN WAS CREATING GLARE ON THE WINDSCREEN, THERE APPEARED TO BE AMPLE SPACE BEHIND THE OTHER ACFT FOR US TO PASS AND NO APPARENT REASON FOR US NOT TO CONTINUE TAXIING. BECAUSE TKOF WAS IMMINENT (PRIOR TO PASSING THE ACFT) THE CAPT INSTRUCTED ME UPDATE THE COMPUTER (QA27) DATA FOR OUR NAV-REALIGN AT THE HOLD SHORT FOR RWY 27. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF UPDATING THE COMPUTER WHILE WE TAXIED PAST THE ACFT HOLDING SHORT ON TXWY D1. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PRESSING IN QA27 ON THE SCRATCH PAD, I FELT A TUG AND TURNED TO THE CAPT. I ASKED HIM IF HE FELT THE TUG AND HAD HE PERHAPS TAPPED THE BRAKES. HE TOLD ME HE DID FEEL THE TUB, BUT HE HAD NOT APPLIED THE BRAKES. HE THEN BROUGHT THE ACFT TO A STOP ON TXWY D WHEN WE HEARD THE OTHER ACFT CALL THE TWR TO SAY HE THOUGHT WE HAD STRUCK THEM FROM BEHIND. THE CAPT ASKED THE FLT ATTENDANTS IF THEY FELT ANYTHING AND TO LOOK OUT AT THE R WING FOR ANY HAZARD. WITHIN SECONDS, THE GND EMER CREW WAS ON THE SCENE TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE. THEY RPTED DAMAGE, BUT NO HAZARD. WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI BACK FOR PARKING SHORTLY THEREAFTER. WE TAXIED BACK WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT.
