Narrative:

Ferrying aircraft, good condition, no ADF. Called 1-800-WX-brief -- no airmets for my route. Departure point had AWOS (non reporting) which was calling for MVFR. En route flight was VFR. WX at destination VFR. Took off VFR, clouds lower than reported. Got into IMC at less than 1000 ft AGL. Numerous obstacles in area, did not feel I could safely descend. Continued climbing, requested IFR pick-up back to departure field. I was IMC in class east airspace with no flight plan until center could give me a clearance. Should have filed instruments to begin with. Should not have gone in an aircraft with which I had little experience.
