Narrative:

The captain was resting in the back. The first officer and I (the international relief officer) were on the flight deck. After passing lixas intersection at XA34Z northbound on UG436 at FL310, we checked in for initial contact with cenamer radio on HF 10.024. During the standard position report we requested FL350. We were told to stand by. Within 2 mins, cenamer radio called and told us, 'cenamer control clears flight to FL350, report leaving FL310 for FL350.' we reported climbing and initiated the VNAV climb. While passing FL327, cenamer radio asked us to report our altitude climbing through. As we climbed through FL335, cenamer radio again asked our altitude and advised we had traffic sbound at 12 O'clock position at FL330. Visual contact was made immediately and maintained. Through approximately FL337 we received a traffic alert at XA42Z with instructions to climb and increase climb. We responded by following the flight director and increasing climb rate to 1600 FPM. The traffic passed 1600 ft below us at FL330.
