Narrative:

Location: ord runway 32R. After being cleared to position and hold runway 32R and while lining up, we heard a takeoff clearance. The first officer and I verbally acknowledged to each other that we were cleared to go. I heard the first officer repeat the clearance to the tower over the air. I commenced the takeoff roll. In the runway 9L/32R intersection and not before that, I saw an aircraft rotate about 2000-3000 ft from us. Tower then asked us what we were doing and we told him that we heard and acknowledged our takeoff clearance. He informed us that we were wrong. About 15 mins later I called the tower supervisor via satcom. I continued the flight without further incident. Supplemental information from acn 496880: while turning into position, captain and I agreed that we had been cleared for takeoff and I acknowledged takeoff clearance to tower, and did not hear any contradiction.
