Narrative:

Aircraft would not maintain pressurization. Outflow valve full closed. Left pack was MEL'ed (air was leaking out through the pack, or so they thought). Cabin continued to climb at 900 FPM. We returned to dtw.

Title: A DC9-40 IN CLB AT 16000 FT DIVERTED DUE TO UNABLE TO MAINTAIN CABIN PRESSURE. L PACK PREVIOUSLY DEFERRED AND RPTED CAUSE OF PRESSURE LEAK.

Narrative: ACFT WOULD NOT MAINTAIN PRESSURIZATION. OUTFLOW VALVE FULL CLOSED. L PACK WAS MEL'ED (AIR WAS LEAKING OUT THROUGH THE PACK, OR SO THEY THOUGHT). CABIN CONTINUED TO CLB AT 900 FPM. WE RETURNED TO DTW.
