Narrative:
Approximately 45 mins after takeoff from jfk we lost our left generator. Because of problems with our APU I elected to return to jfk for maintenance or a replacement aircraft. We descended and extended speed brakes to increase fuel burn. We requested runway 31L at jfk and landing was uneventful, smooth, with a sink rate of less than 100 FPM.
