Narrative:

After landing, I took control of the aircraft and taxied clear of the active runway, taxiing behind a DC9. I called for the after landing checklist and started my flow check. At this time my first officer called ground, as instructed to by tower, and received taxi instructions to follow the DC9 and taxi 'straight ahead.' before reaching the parallel runway which lay prior to our ramp, I questioned my first officer if we were cleared to cross the runway behind the DC9. My first officer responded 'yes.' when we reached the centerline, and the DC9 was nearly clear of the runway, the DC9 started a hard right turn. It was now obvious he was actually aligning with the centerline for departure and we were in danger of colliding. I quickly advanced power and passed behind him clear of the runway and the DC9. The controller's limited english ability and the use of nonstandard terminology were major factors. Also, the radio call occurring during my after landing duties, forcing me to divide my attention, was a contributing factor, as I only really heard taxi straight.

Title: ACR CREW TAXIES ONTO RWY BEHIND DEPARTING DC9 AT CCS.

Narrative: AFTER LNDG, I TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT AND TAXIED CLR OF THE ACTIVE RWY, TAXIING BEHIND A DC9. I CALLED FOR THE AFTER LNDG CHKLIST AND STARTED MY FLOW CHK. AT THIS TIME MY FO CALLED GND, AS INSTRUCTED TO BY TWR, AND RECEIVED TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO FOLLOW THE DC9 AND TAXI 'STRAIGHT AHEAD.' BEFORE REACHING THE PARALLEL RWY WHICH LAY PRIOR TO OUR RAMP, I QUESTIONED MY FO IF WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS THE RWY BEHIND THE DC9. MY FO RESPONDED 'YES.' WHEN WE REACHED THE CTRLINE, AND THE DC9 WAS NEARLY CLR OF THE RWY, THE DC9 STARTED A HARD R TURN. IT WAS NOW OBVIOUS HE WAS ACTUALLY ALIGNING WITH THE CTRLINE FOR DEP AND WE WERE IN DANGER OF COLLIDING. I QUICKLY ADVANCED PWR AND PASSED BEHIND HIM CLR OF THE RWY AND THE DC9. THE CTLR'S LIMITED ENGLISH ABILITY AND THE USE OF NONSTANDARD TERMINOLOGY WERE MAJOR FACTORS. ALSO, THE RADIO CALL OCCURRING DURING MY AFTER LNDG DUTIES, FORCING ME TO DIVIDE MY ATTN, WAS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR, AS I ONLY REALLY HEARD TAXI STRAIGHT.
