Narrative:
We had set up for an ILS to runway 7L lax. We were given a vector to intercept ILS for runway 6R and cleared for approach. First officer flying, I tuned ILS and was setting up FMS for runway 6R. We did not arm the runway 6R ILS and flew through the localizer. I noticed we did not capture and manually flew to a new intercept heading. The overshoot was to about the runway 7L localizer. We should have armed the capture mode sooner and I should not have been setting up the FMS.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF AN AIRBUS A300 OVERSHOT THE LOC DURING TURNING INBOUND FOR AN ILS APCH DUE TO FORGETTING TO SET THE ILS CAPTURE ON THE AUTOPLT.
Narrative: WE HAD SET UP FOR AN ILS TO RWY 7L LAX. WE WERE GIVEN A VECTOR TO INTERCEPT ILS FOR RWY 6R AND CLRED FOR APCH. FO FLYING, I TUNED ILS AND WAS SETTING UP FMS FOR RWY 6R. WE DID NOT ARM THE RWY 6R ILS AND FLEW THROUGH THE LOC. I NOTICED WE DID NOT CAPTURE AND MANUALLY FLEW TO A NEW INTERCEPT HDG. THE OVERSHOOT WAS TO ABOUT THE RWY 7L LOC. WE SHOULD HAVE ARMED THE CAPTURE MODE SOONER AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SETTING UP THE FMS.
