Descending out of 11000 ft to 5000 ft while preparing for arrival at lynchburg, va (lyh). Under control of roanoke approach (roa). Attention distracted by traffic and communications. Descended to 4500 ft before recovery begun. ATC questioned altitude during recovery. No known traffic conflict. Clear dark night. Inattention by PIC (solo). First time in over 2400 hours of IFR flying.
