Narrative:

After receiving my departure clearance, I failed to set my altimeter. After being handed off to departure, I reported my altitude and the departure control acknowledged. Upon leveling off at 5000 ft, the controller asked me to confirm level at 5000 ft. My altimeter indicated 5000 ft, but upon further inspection, I realized I hadn't set my altimeter, resulting in a 800 ft deviation from my assigned altitude. In the future, I will be more thorough with my checklist (radio checked) prior to departure.
