Narrative:

While performing a walkaround during a layover check of a B737, I noticed a cut in the #1 main tire. I checked the cut, per maintenance manual, as referenced by the layover and found the cut to be within limits. I covered the cut with grease in an attempt to keep the flight crew from questioning the tire, since I would not be here at departure time.
