Narrative:

I never thought it could happen to me. I was instructed to 'taxi into position and hold' (or so I thought) and I repeated that clearance. When previously landed traffic cleared the runway, I was given an immediate departure and was told that my instructions had been to 'hold short.' I'm reminded of the simon and garfunkel lyric 'a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest...' I believe that's what happened to me. I wanted to hear 'position and hold,' and darnit, I did. I will not make this mistake again.

Narrative: I NEVER THOUGHT IT COULD HAPPEN TO ME. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO 'TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD' (OR SO I THOUGHT) AND I REPEATED THAT CLRNC. WHEN PREVIOUSLY LANDED TFC CLRED THE RWY, I WAS GIVEN AN IMMEDIATE DEP AND WAS TOLD THAT MY INSTRUCTIONS HAD BEEN TO 'HOLD SHORT.'
