Narrative:
On jul/sat/00, flight was cleared to land on runway 35 after conducting a visual approach. At approximately 1/2 mi from the runway I noticed traffic approaching the numbers of runway 27R. I asked the first officer to call ATC about the traffic. He was unable to contact ATC due to frequency congestion. A few seconds later I initiated a sharp left climbing turn, feeling the traffic was a conflict. We were then vectored for landing on runway 27R.
