Narrative:

During taxi out there was a near runway incursion. Ground control called and stopped aircraft prior to incursion. Airport markings poor, need better markings. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that the flight crew only stopped the taxi when abq alerted them of near intrusion into the active runway. The flight crew reported the runway 8 hold line was nearly worn off the taxiway surface. The signage, if present, was not readily visible or missing.
