Narrative:
Upon departure from spartanburg downtown (spa) turned aircraft to a 290 degree heading and attempted to make contact with greer approach. No response heard from greer. Found loose connection and reset. Greer made statements that aircraft must stay outside of a 3 mi radius of primary airport if radio 2-WAY communications are not established. I and the pilot in the left seat delayed the decision to turn away from the class B airspace. We should have turned away from greer as soon as there appeared to be a communication problem.
