Narrative:

On apr/xa/99 while I performed a thorough service check on aircraft xyz, the #3 engine oil service door was found to be missing. I ordered a replacement door, however, when the door was delivered to the gate, I discovered the hinge assembly must be riveted to the cowling and door. The aircraft was ready for departure. I referred to the maintenance manual for a temporary repair. The replacement door included the securing hardware which was different from the temporary repair. Because of this, I deviated from the maintenance manual and accomplished the rest of the repair in accordance.
