Narrative:

I was taking a friend for his first small plane ride. We decided to circle over his house. After 2 circles, I noticed the runways of iwa. They didn't look too far away, so I left the area immediately. There was no traffic. I was still monitoring ffz radio. We had just departed ffz. Iwa airspace is 1/2 mi from ffz airspace. When we got on the ground, I checked the charts and it appears I violated iwa class D airspace by about 1 mi. Contributing factors. Low time pilot, hadn't flown in 7 months. Failed to check charts for a short local flight. Corrective actions: this has been a good lesson that every flight requires proper planning, even if it is a short flight.
