Narrative:

As an airport operations supervisor, I perform runway inspections after the landing of aircraft in distress. On the night of jan/xa/99, I entered the runway after the wrong 'cessna citation' (aircraft X) landed. It was the wrong aircraft because the 'cessna citation' (aircraft Y) which was in distress landed moments later -- after I cleared the runway. I was in contact with ATCT tower the whole time and even after requesting the 'location of the cessna,' wasn't advised. (ATCT tower had 2 cessna citations on the approach and failed to advise me of the location of the one in distress.) the landing aircraft did not have to divert from its course in order to land safely. There was no compromise in safety and there was no impact in operations of the airfield or ATCT tower. When advised to exit the runway by ATCT tower, I did so quickly. Proper communications from ATCT would not have caused me to follow the wrong aircraft.

Title: OPS ARPT SUPVR CONCERNED WHEN, AFTER CONDUCTING A RWY INSPECTION FOR AN ASSUMED ACFT LNDG IN DISTRESS, THAT IT IS ACTUALLY THE NEXT LNDG ACFT. ARPT OPS SUPVR STATES THAT TWR PERSONNEL FAILED TO IDENT THE CORRECT ACFT IN DISTRESS.

Narrative: AS AN ARPT OPS SUPVR, I PERFORM RWY INSPECTIONS AFTER THE LNDG OF ACFT IN DISTRESS. ON THE NIGHT OF JAN/XA/99, I ENTERED THE RWY AFTER THE WRONG 'CESSNA CITATION' (ACFT X) LANDED. IT WAS THE WRONG ACFT BECAUSE THE 'CESSNA CITATION' (ACFT Y) WHICH WAS IN DISTRESS LANDED MOMENTS LATER -- AFTER I CLRED THE RWY. I WAS IN CONTACT WITH ATCT TWR THE WHOLE TIME AND EVEN AFTER REQUESTING THE 'LOCATION OF THE CESSNA,' WASN'T ADVISED. (ATCT TWR HAD 2 CESSNA CITATIONS ON THE APCH AND FAILED TO ADVISE ME OF THE LOCATION OF THE ONE IN DISTRESS.) THE LNDG ACFT DID NOT HAVE TO DIVERT FROM ITS COURSE IN ORDER TO LAND SAFELY. THERE WAS NO COMPROMISE IN SAFETY AND THERE WAS NO IMPACT IN OPS OF THE AIRFIELD OR ATCT TWR. WHEN ADVISED TO EXIT THE RWY BY ATCT TWR, I DID SO QUICKLY. PROPER COMS FROM ATCT WOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED ME TO FOLLOW THE WRONG ACFT.
