Narrative:

On sadde 6 arrival runway 24R lax, socal 124.5 told us to descend to 7000 ft. We were at 12000 ft at 250 KTS around sadde. After turn inbound to bayst, socal called traffic at 2 O'clock position restr below us, air carrier Y at 9000 ft. We were descending through 10000 ft, had the traffic on TCASII at 10000 ft. I directed first officer to stop descent. We were cleared to 7000 ft, we stopped at 9700 ft. Air carrier Y passed directly under us. No TCASII RA nor traffic! No comment by socal. We also said nothing. After air carrier Y was clear, we continued to 7000 ft. Socal messed up -- we caught it! No harm done, no foul.
