Narrative:

On approach into msp, we set altimeters to 29.58 passing FL180 on arrival. When turned on final for the ILS runway 12R approach, GS captured as did the localizer. We intercepted the final approach 14 mi out. At that time, when I xrefed the GS intercept with the altimeter, I questioned myself that the altimeter seemed to read high. As we approached the OM, I asked the captain to verify the altimeter setting. He did, and we had to reset the altimeters to 28.58. Our altimeters were reading 1000 ft high though we were on the GS. The altimeter had dropped significantly since our previous arrival the evening before and at 28.58 was abnormally low, thus 29.58 seemed a more appropriate setting. We set the altimeters to what seemed normal, whereas 28.58 is exceptionally low. ATC never asked about our altitude nor did they question our altimeter setting. It was the xrefing once the GS was captured with other instruments that made me aware of the error in altimeter setting.

Title: MLG CREW MISSET THEIR ALTIMETER BY 1 INCH. THIS RESULTED IN THE ACFT BEING 1000 FT LOW.

Narrative: ON APCH INTO MSP, WE SET ALTIMETERS TO 29.58 PASSING FL180 ON ARR. WHEN TURNED ON FINAL FOR THE ILS RWY 12R APCH, GS CAPTURED AS DID THE LOC. WE INTERCEPTED THE FINAL APCH 14 MI OUT. AT THAT TIME, WHEN I XREFED THE GS INTERCEPT WITH THE ALTIMETER, I QUESTIONED MYSELF THAT THE ALTIMETER SEEMED TO READ HIGH. AS WE APCHED THE OM, I ASKED THE CAPT TO VERIFY THE ALTIMETER SETTING. HE DID, AND WE HAD TO RESET THE ALTIMETERS TO 28.58. OUR ALTIMETERS WERE READING 1000 FT HIGH THOUGH WE WERE ON THE GS. THE ALTIMETER HAD DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE OUR PREVIOUS ARR THE EVENING BEFORE AND AT 28.58 WAS ABNORMALLY LOW, THUS 29.58 SEEMED A MORE APPROPRIATE SETTING. WE SET THE ALTIMETERS TO WHAT SEEMED NORMAL, WHEREAS 28.58 IS EXCEPTIONALLY LOW. ATC NEVER ASKED ABOUT OUR ALT NOR DID THEY QUESTION OUR ALTIMETER SETTING. IT WAS THE XREFING ONCE THE GS WAS CAPTURED WITH OTHER INSTS THAT MADE ME AWARE OF THE ERROR IN ALTIMETER SETTING.
