Narrative:

Flight planned cle to ewr. During takeoff runway 5L, at approximately vr, I noticed an EMB145 passing us, and take off on runway 5R. Takeoff and climb were normal. At no time was there an airborne collision hazard and separation for maneuvering was adequate. Tower issued a left turn to 320 degrees to increase separation. They also issued us a phone number to call on landing at ewr. After calling, cle tower advised that they had listened to the tape and advised that we had 'not done anything wrong.' conditions leading up to event: cleared to cross runway 5R and taxi into position and hold runway 5L. At that point, cle tower advised a delay for takeoff clearance. We were in position for approximately 5-7 mins. Tower elected to hold us in position which required all arriving and departing traffic to use runway 5R or runway 10/28. Tower workload appeared to increase due to loss of runway 5L. Tower kept us advised of impending release, issuing us a 2 min notice. Shortly after (1-2 mins) we were issued, 'fly runway heading, cleared for takeoff.' high workload, high traffic flow, loss of one runway, busy ATC, and on-time considerations.

Title: ACR CREW CONCERNED ABOUT SIMULTANEOUS PARALLEL TKOFS AT CLE.

Narrative: FLT PLANNED CLE TO EWR. DURING TKOF RWY 5L, AT APPROX VR, I NOTICED AN EMB145 PASSING US, AND TAKE OFF ON RWY 5R. TKOF AND CLB WERE NORMAL. AT NO TIME WAS THERE AN AIRBORNE COLLISION HAZARD AND SEPARATION FOR MANEUVERING WAS ADEQUATE. TWR ISSUED A L TURN TO 320 DEGS TO INCREASE SEPARATION. THEY ALSO ISSUED US A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL ON LNDG AT EWR. AFTER CALLING, CLE TWR ADVISED THAT THEY HAD LISTENED TO THE TAPE AND ADVISED THAT WE HAD 'NOT DONE ANYTHING WRONG.' CONDITIONS LEADING UP TO EVENT: CLRED TO CROSS RWY 5R AND TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD RWY 5L. AT THAT POINT, CLE TWR ADVISED A DELAY FOR TKOF CLRNC. WE WERE IN POS FOR APPROX 5-7 MINS. TWR ELECTED TO HOLD US IN POS WHICH REQUIRED ALL ARRIVING AND DEPARTING TFC TO USE RWY 5R OR RWY 10/28. TWR WORKLOAD APPEARED TO INCREASE DUE TO LOSS OF RWY 5L. TWR KEPT US ADVISED OF IMPENDING RELEASE, ISSUING US A 2 MIN NOTICE. SHORTLY AFTER (1-2 MINS) WE WERE ISSUED, 'FLY RWY HDG, CLRED FOR TKOF.' HIGH WORKLOAD, HIGH TFC FLOW, LOSS OF ONE RWY, BUSY ATC, AND ON-TIME CONSIDERATIONS.
