Narrative:

Passenger complained of severe chest pains. Passenger was grabbing his chest in pain, leaning over the tray table. I, the purser of the flight, paged a physician. None were onboard. Shaved the passenger's chest and applied the electrodes of the aed (automatic external defibrillator). Passenger kept experiencing the chest pains for over 1 hour. The automatic external defibrillator advised not to shock. Passenger was always conscious. Automatic external defibrillator monitored the heart. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states that the ill passenger appeared to be in his mid-thirties, traveling alone for the first time to south america and, in hindsight, realized the passenger was suffering from anxiety. The defibrillator was applied but never administered shock due to a regular heartbeat. In the absence of a physician onboard, the reporter felt the symptoms required the treatment. The passenger recovered before landing and did not need further medical assistance.
