Narrative:

An LOA exists between approach control at hnl cerap and maui ATCT which permits 'walk on handoffs' or automatic xfer of radio identify from approach to tower. Air carrier #1, a heavy L1011, inbound from the northeast to maui, was radar xferred through the walk-on procedure to maui ATCT. The aircraft continued on the downwind. Unknown to local control, other aircraft inbound from the south were sequenced ahead of air carrier #1. These aircraft were military #1, a C130, and air carrier #2, a DC9. Other local control duties took my attention away from the radar scope. Upon looking back at the scope, air carrier #1 had disappeared from the radar scope. After checking with approach I was informed they had radio communications with the aircraft that was on my control symbol (O). The aircraft's position was outside the current coverage of the radar scope at maui ATCT.

Narrative: AN LOA EXISTS BTWN APCH CTL AT HNL CERAP AND MAUI ATCT WHICH PERMITS 'WALK ON HDOFS' OR AUTOMATIC XFER OF RADIO IDENT FROM APCH TO TWR. ACR #1, A HVY L1011, INBOUND FROM THE NE TO MAUI, WAS RADAR XFERRED THROUGH THE WALK-ON PROC TO MAUI ATCT. THE ACFT CONTINUED ON THE DOWNWIND. UNKNOWN TO LCL CTL, OTHER ACFT INBOUND FROM THE S WERE SEQUENCED AHEAD OF ACR #1. THESE ACFT WERE MIL #1, A C130, AND ACR #2, A DC9. OTHER LCL CTL DUTIES TOOK MY ATTN AWAY FROM THE RADAR SCOPE. UPON LOOKING BACK AT THE SCOPE, ACR #1 HAD DISAPPEARED FROM THE RADAR SCOPE. AFTER CHKING WITH APCH I WAS INFORMED THEY HAD RADIO COMS WITH THE ACFT THAT WAS ON MY CTL SYMBOL (O). THE ACFT'S POS WAS OUTSIDE THE CURRENT COVERAGE OF THE RADAR SCOPE AT MAUI ATCT.
