Narrative:

Upon arriving at aircraft discussed with captain MEL items -- captain's ADI flag was MEL'd. Later in flight I noticed a dmi MEL sticker on the overhead panel -- vertical gyro 'captain on altitude' selected. I asked the captain about this and he stated that he forgot to brief me on this MEL item. I asked can we MEL an ADI, and he stated yes, the other crew and maintenance checked the MEL as okay. Upon further investigation we determined that maintenance and the previous crews had improperly MEL'd this item. This is the last time I will take maintenance's word. I will verify the procedure for myself from here on out.
