Narrative:

There was an area of thunderstorms in the vicinity of cvg during our departure via the whitewater 2 SID. The captain was the PF. We were being vectored to intercept the 294 degree radial of cvg for the departure during our climb out. We were focusing on the radar to avoid the thunderstorms. Climbing through 6000 ft we noticed that the airspeed had crept up to 300 KIAS. The captain immediately slowed the aircraft to 250 KIAS. I feel the distraction of weather avoidance caused a loss of situational awareness regarding airspeed limits below 10000.
