Narrative:

Got a 'pod smoke' warning from central annunciator panel in cruise en route between fresno, ca, and ontario, ca. Company procedures require that a landing be made as soon as possible. Diverted to bfl, evacuated passenger, and fire and rescue inspected pod for fire. Their was no evidence of fire. Upon taxi-in to ramp area, we found a placard, which showed the 'pod smoke' detection system as deferred and inoperative. The aircraft logbook also showed the system was deferred. This was my first day of IOE in this aircraft. We were scheduled for a 25 min turn in fresno with an aircraft swap. A delay out of oak on the previous leg shortened the turn time in fat to only 15 mins. We were pressured to hurry, and in the process, failed to check the aircraft log prior to departure. The placard was installed improperly (in the wrong place, not in full view). We need to always check the aircraft log book prior to boarding, and not be influenced by pressures to hurry and be careless.

Title: ACR LTT POD SMOKE WARNING ACTIVATED AT CRUISE ALT. FLT CREW DIVERTED TO ALTERNATE, THEN DISCOVERED THE SMOKE DETECTOR HAD BEEN PLACARDED INOP.

Narrative: GOT A 'POD SMOKE' WARNING FROM CENTRAL ANNUNCIATOR PANEL IN CRUISE ENRTE BTWN FRESNO, CA, AND ONTARIO, CA. COMPANY PROCS REQUIRE THAT A LNDG BE MADE ASAP. DIVERTED TO BFL, EVACUATED PAX, AND FIRE AND RESCUE INSPECTED POD FOR FIRE. THEIR WAS NO EVIDENCE OF FIRE. UPON TAXI-IN TO RAMP AREA, WE FOUND A PLACARD, WHICH SHOWED THE 'POD SMOKE' DETECTION SYS AS DEFERRED AND INOP. THE ACFT LOGBOOK ALSO SHOWED THE SYS WAS DEFERRED. THIS WAS MY FIRST DAY OF IOE IN THIS ACFT. WE WERE SCHEDULED FOR A 25 MIN TURN IN FRESNO WITH AN ACFT SWAP. A DELAY OUT OF OAK ON THE PREVIOUS LEG SHORTENED THE TURN TIME IN FAT TO ONLY 15 MINS. WE WERE PRESSURED TO HURRY, AND IN THE PROCESS, FAILED TO CHK THE ACFT LOG PRIOR TO DEP. THE PLACARD WAS INSTALLED IMPROPERLY (IN THE WRONG PLACE, NOT IN FULL VIEW). WE NEED TO ALWAYS CHK THE ACFT LOG BOOK PRIOR TO BOARDING, AND NOT BE INFLUENCED BY PRESSURES TO HURRY AND BE CARELESS.
