Narrative:

While conducting a flight school stage check, I diverted the student to the springhill airport (70N) where, after the student located the airport at 3500 ft (1800 ft AGL) approximately 1-2 mi east of the airport, I initiated a simulated engine failure. The student circled the airport to land on runway 23. Upon landing, a loud unusual thump was heard and the student initiated a go around which I backed up and supported. On climb out I noticed a dent in the flap which I felt was an indication of further damage. Since the aircraft was flying ok and no control problems were encountered. I elected to continue the short distance to avp where I could have the tower visually check for possible damage and emergency equipment would be available. (No brake pressure and the damage to the flap led me to believe there was gear damage.) upon visual inspection by tower and company personnel it was confirmed that the right main tire was missing. An emergency was declared and an emergency landing was made on runway 28 at avp as wind was approximately 270 degrees at 7 KTS and to prevent obstruction of runway 4. The landing was made without further incident.

Title: INSTRUCTOR WITH SPI ON STAGE CHK, HEARS AN UNUSUAL THUMP ON LNDG AND EXECUTES A GAR. SEEING A DENT IN THE FLAP AND WITH NO CTL PROBS, THEY RETURN TO HOME FIELD WHERE TWR INDICATES A MISSING R MAIN TIRE. EMER LNDG PERFORMED.

Narrative: WHILE CONDUCTING A FLT SCHOOL STAGE CHK, I DIVERTED THE STUDENT TO THE SPRINGHILL ARPT (70N) WHERE, AFTER THE STUDENT LOCATED THE ARPT AT 3500 FT (1800 FT AGL) APPROX 1-2 MI E OF THE ARPT, I INITIATED A SIMULATED ENG FAILURE. THE STUDENT CIRCLED THE ARPT TO LAND ON RWY 23. UPON LNDG, A LOUD UNUSUAL THUMP WAS HEARD AND THE STUDENT INITIATED A GAR WHICH I BACKED UP AND SUPPORTED. ON CLBOUT I NOTICED A DENT IN THE FLAP WHICH I FELT WAS AN INDICATION OF FURTHER DAMAGE. SINCE THE ACFT WAS FLYING OK AND NO CTL PROBS WERE ENCOUNTERED. I ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE SHORT DISTANCE TO AVP WHERE I COULD HAVE THE TWR VISUALLY CHK FOR POSSIBLE DAMAGE AND EMER EQUIP WOULD BE AVAILABLE.
