Narrative:

While aircraft XXX (DC10-10) was parked at the departure gate during loading, ramp cargo loader struck the #3 engine nose cowl denting it at the 5 O'clock position. Crew felt impact in cockpit and crew member decided to investigate. Per maintenance manual reference, no limits for dents and replaced the nose cowl assembly. This happened in ZZZ, us, our largest maintenance facility. For whatever reason they failed to perform the required pylon inspection, ground damage (workstands, etc). I feel there should be some reference in the maintenance manual for the cowl dispatch limits and removal and replacement instructions to warn the technician to review the wing pylon-special check requirements when 'any' damage is found. Due to the importance of this required inspection, I feel any maintenance manual references for damage limitations or removal and replacement of 'any' cowling, exhaust cone or thrust reverser sleeves should have a note: reference airworthiness directive 80-11-05/R1 wing pylon- special check.
