Pilot of cpr BE90T is cleared to taxi to a runway. The taxiway crosses the runway and reporter was not told to hold short. As he crosses the hold line the ground controller tells him he was not cleared to cross.

Narrative:

I was told to taxi to runway 12 at ats. The taxiway crosses the runway. I was not told to hold short of the runway. I did not get on the runway but did cross the hold line. Ground control told me I was not cleared to cross runway. This was a misunderstanding. No problems arose out of this.
