Narrative:

On the glen rose arrival into dfw from the west, captain flying. Given clearance at pilot discretion to descend to 11000 ft. The descent to 11000 ft was initiated late and I advised center that we would have difficulty making this restr. The response was 'yeah, we were just talking about that.' we made the descent and leveled at 11000 ft at 38 mi from jen vice 40 mi as cleared. On the same arrival at the fever intersection (jen 039 degree radial, 15 NM) the clearance on the arrival was 250 KTS for north lndgs. We misread this as 280 KTS. Both errors were made due to inattention from conversation. No conflicts, TCASII on, controller comments noted.
