Narrative:

At time of takeoff clearance there was confusion about the heading to be flown. The controller mentioned 280 degrees and then said 'correction' wind 330 degrees at 10 KTS. We assumed the 280 degrees was for the wind. On initial contact with departure, she inquired as to our heading and our response was 255 degrees (SID). She told us we were to be on a 280 degree heading. She then instructed us to fly present heading. At 4700 ft she asked our altitude, we said 4700-5000 ft. She said she assigned us 3000 ft. Neither the captain nor I remember hearing that or replying to it. She then told us to maintain 6000 ft. At no time was there an infraction with aircraft separation.
