Narrative:

Climbing through FL228 for FL230, ZBW queried us, asked us to verify that we were going to FL220. We responded that we were given FL230 as an assigned altitude. Center then instructed us to descend to FL220, which we did. There were no traffic conflicts that we were aware of (TCASII for 40 NM was clear and showing no aircraft at FL230 and after we descended back to FL220). The climb assignment was given to us while we were at an intermediate altitude of 14000 ft and I was off the radios and making an announcement to the passenger. When I was done and returned to the radios (ie, ATC frequency), the captain informed me that the only change that occurred while I was making the announcement was the climb assignment to the new altitude of FL230.

Narrative: CLBING THROUGH FL228 FOR FL230, ZBW QUERIED US, ASKED US TO VERIFY THAT WE WERE GOING TO FL220. WE RESPONDED THAT WE WERE GIVEN FL230 AS AN ASSIGNED ALT. CTR THEN INSTRUCTED US TO DSND TO FL220, WHICH WE DID. THERE WERE NO TFC CONFLICTS THAT WE WERE AWARE OF (TCASII FOR 40 NM WAS CLR AND SHOWING NO ACFT AT FL230 AND AFTER WE DSNDED BACK TO FL220). THE CLB ASSIGNMENT WAS GIVEN TO US WHILE WE WERE AT AN INTERMEDIATE ALT OF 14000 FT AND I WAS OFF THE RADIOS AND MAKING AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE PAX. WHEN I WAS DONE AND RETURNED TO THE RADIOS (IE, ATC FREQ), THE CAPT INFORMED ME THAT THE ONLY CHANGE THAT OCCURRED WHILE I WAS MAKING THE ANNOUNCEMENT WAS THE CLB ASSIGNMENT TO THE NEW ALT OF FL230.
