Narrative:
I instructed first officer to stay out of a cloud at our altitude at our 12 O'clock position, assuming he would maneuver around it. Instead, he tried to climb over it. His altitude reached FL254 before a descent was started. Next time I will be more specific or simply take the controls.

Title: PIC ASKS FO TO STAY OUT OF A CLOUD IN FRONT OF HIS BE02. PIC EXPECTED FO TO TURN. HE CLBED INSTEAD.
Narrative: I INSTRUCTED FO TO STAY OUT OF A CLOUD AT OUR ALT AT OUR 12 O'CLOCK POS, ASSUMING HE WOULD MANEUVER AROUND IT. INSTEAD, HE TRIED TO CLB OVER IT. HIS ALT REACHED FL254 BEFORE A DSCNT WAS STARTED. NEXT TIME I WILL BE MORE SPECIFIC OR SIMPLY TAKE THE CTLS.
