Narrative:

Departed VFR to pick up IFR clearance en route. Flew from socorro airport direct corona VOR and evidently violated restr area (while VFR). Took appropriate action per ATC. Had problems getting on airway and missed assigned altitude due to failure of directional gyroscope/HSI. Notified ATC of failure and was given vectors to no gyroscope approach, albuquerque. Landed safely.

Title: PVT PLT OF A BEECH 36, BE36, INADVERTENTLY PENETRATED A RESTR AREA DURING A VFR CLB TO SUBSEQUENTLY PICK UP AN IFR CLRNC. HE WAS EXPERIENCING A PROB WITH THE DIRECTIONAL GYROSCOPE RESULTING IN ATC INTERVENTION TO PROVIDE VECTORS TO HIS DEST.

Narrative: DEPARTED VFR TO PICK UP IFR CLRNC ENRTE. FLEW FROM SOCORRO ARPT DIRECT CORONA VOR AND EVIDENTLY VIOLATED RESTR AREA (WHILE VFR). TOOK APPROPRIATE ACTION PER ATC. HAD PROBS GETTING ON AIRWAY AND MISSED ASSIGNED ALT DUE TO FAILURE OF DIRECTIONAL GYROSCOPE/HSI. NOTIFIED ATC OF FAILURE AND WAS GIVEN VECTORS TO NO GYROSCOPE APCH, ALBUQUERQUE. LANDED SAFELY.
