Traffic appeared at 12 O'clock position and the same altitude. About 5 seconds later received an RA with command to descend. A descent and turn was accomplished about the same time ATC gave us a warning of unknown traffic at 12 O'clock position at 10000 ft. A descent to 8700 ft was accomplished before a 'clear of conflict' advisory was received. Traffic passed by our left side and slightly above. Continued approach at 9000 ft.
