Narrative:

Issued takeoff clearance for runway 22L with landing traffic on approach for runway 27L. My plan was to use full length of runway 22L. Without any instructions to expedite, all seemed to be normal -- until first officer pointed out traffic was very close. I elected to hold position as landing traffic continued which upset tower controller. I have to assume controller expected me to expedite and make a rolling takeoff but my mindset from the past several days of training was to do an almost static thrust takeoff. I now understand what the controller expected but it would be very helpful had he said to expedite or even express concern about the potential conflict. Supplemental information from acn 379481: reduced spacing for arrival traffic on runway 27L to less than minimal. We elected to delay takeoff while arrival traffic landed with subsequent radio confusion. Tower cleared us for takeoff again and we went this time. Tower expressed its agitation with us on departure by asking us if 'we thought we should inform an ATC facility if we were going to be on the runway longer than normal.' I said yes, and asked if I should call him. He said, if I want to I could.

Title: PIC ON S80 ELECTS TO DELAY HIS TKOF FROM RWY 22L WHEN HIS FO POINTS OUT THE PROX OF AN ARR ACFT ON RWY 27L. CTLR IS UNDERSTANDABLY UPSET ABOUT THE DELAY.

Narrative: ISSUED TKOF CLRNC FOR RWY 22L WITH LNDG TFC ON APCH FOR RWY 27L. MY PLAN WAS TO USE FULL LENGTH OF RWY 22L. WITHOUT ANY INSTRUCTIONS TO EXPEDITE, ALL SEEMED TO BE NORMAL -- UNTIL FO POINTED OUT TFC WAS VERY CLOSE. I ELECTED TO HOLD POS AS LNDG TFC CONTINUED WHICH UPSET TWR CTLR. I HAVE TO ASSUME CTLR EXPECTED ME TO EXPEDITE AND MAKE A ROLLING TKOF BUT MY MINDSET FROM THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS OF TRAINING WAS TO DO AN ALMOST STATIC THRUST TKOF. I NOW UNDERSTAND WHAT THE CTLR EXPECTED BUT IT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL HAD HE SAID TO EXPEDITE OR EVEN EXPRESS CONCERN ABOUT THE POTENTIAL CONFLICT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 379481: REDUCED SPACING FOR ARR TFC ON RWY 27L TO LESS THAN MINIMAL. WE ELECTED TO DELAY TKOF WHILE ARR TFC LANDED WITH SUBSEQUENT RADIO CONFUSION. TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF AGAIN AND WE WENT THIS TIME. TWR EXPRESSED ITS AGITATION WITH US ON DEP BY ASKING US IF 'WE THOUGHT WE SHOULD INFORM AN ATC FACILITY IF WE WERE GOING TO BE ON THE RWY LONGER THAN NORMAL.' I SAID YES, AND ASKED IF I SHOULD CALL HIM. HE SAID, IF I WANT TO I COULD.
