Narrative:

I was in the right with my friend in the left for a familiarization flight in C310J. We preflight the airplane, started engines, called clearance and ground and had instructions to taxi to runway 8. Nosewheel was on yellow line and after initial power application brakes were checked with no abnormalities. Taxiing was continued on yellow line but neither pilot could steer the airplane away from parked cars along the fence on right side. There was no response from left brakes when brakes were applied. Right tip tank impacted the first car on the row and turned the airplane to the right causing right engine/propeller to impact the second car. Parking is very congested on this side of airport because of freight trucks and pallets parked on left side of yellow taxi line and privately owned cars parked on right of taxi line. Clearance is no more than 3-5 ft on either side. In this situation the left brakes failed at the worse time and place, and by the time we shut the engines down, airplane was within few ft of automobiles.

Title: A C310J WHILE TAXIING STRUCK 2 PARKED CARS DUE TO L BRAKE FAILURE INCURRING DAMAGE TO THE R WINGTIP TANK AND R ENG PROP.

Narrative: I WAS IN THE R WITH MY FRIEND IN THE L FOR A FAMILIARIZATION FLT IN C310J. WE PREFLT THE AIRPLANE, STARTED ENGS, CALLED CLRNC AND GND AND HAD INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TO RWY 8. NOSEWHEEL WAS ON YELLOW LINE AND AFTER INITIAL PWR APPLICATION BRAKES WERE CHKED WITH NO ABNORMALITIES. TAXIING WAS CONTINUED ON YELLOW LINE BUT NEITHER PLT COULD STEER THE AIRPLANE AWAY FROM PARKED CARS ALONG THE FENCE ON R SIDE. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM L BRAKES WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. R TIP TANK IMPACTED THE FIRST CAR ON THE ROW AND TURNED THE AIRPLANE TO THE R CAUSING R ENG/PROP TO IMPACT THE SECOND CAR. PARKING IS VERY CONGESTED ON THIS SIDE OF ARPT BECAUSE OF FREIGHT TRUCKS AND PALLETS PARKED ON L SIDE OF YELLOW TAXI LINE AND PRIVATELY OWNED CARS PARKED ON R OF TAXI LINE. CLRNC IS NO MORE THAN 3-5 FT ON EITHER SIDE. IN THIS SIT THE L BRAKES FAILED AT THE WORSE TIME AND PLACE, AND BY THE TIME WE SHUT THE ENGS DOWN, AIRPLANE WAS WITHIN FEW FT OF AUTOMOBILES.
