Narrative:

Flight plan routing for flight was iah iah 1 bpt lch *** atl. Received pre departure clearance via ACARS and printed out. ACARS ran out of paper 1/2 way through clearance and cut ATC clearance in half. We read clearance as flight plan route but ATC had changed airway from J22 to J590, both going to mgm. Confusion occurred because airway change was in *** section of flight plan routing. We were on J22 approximately 10 mi northeast of lch when the controller asked if we were deviating for WX. We said no, and then he cleared us direct to green county (gcv) rest of route unchanged. We immediately complied and nothing further was mentioned about this event. Corrective actions: 1) it was unfortunate that ACARS ran out of paper at this critical point. 2) it was also unfortunate that the airway change did not show up on flight plan routing due to the *** section. 3) I have been in the habit of verifying a pre departure clearance with the one delivered by the gate agent by comparing squawks and not reading further. In the future I will take more time if there is a problem with the printed portion of the pre departure clearance and read the document carefully. 4) a web site to submit this form.

Title: MD88 ACFT DURING PREFLT AND PDC PRINTOUT, PRINTER RAN OUT OF PAPER AND PDC WAS INCOMPLETE. FLC ASSUMED ROUTING WAS THE SAME, BUT ENRTE CTLR QUESTIONED THE ROUTING AND RECLRED FLT.

Narrative: FLT PLAN ROUTING FOR FLT WAS IAH IAH 1 BPT LCH *** ATL. RECEIVED PDC VIA ACARS AND PRINTED OUT. ACARS RAN OUT OF PAPER 1/2 WAY THROUGH CLRNC AND CUT ATC CLRNC IN HALF. WE READ CLRNC AS FLT PLAN RTE BUT ATC HAD CHANGED AIRWAY FROM J22 TO J590, BOTH GOING TO MGM. CONFUSION OCCURRED BECAUSE AIRWAY CHANGE WAS IN *** SECTION OF FLT PLAN ROUTING. WE WERE ON J22 APPROX 10 MI NE OF LCH WHEN THE CTLR ASKED IF WE WERE DEVIATING FOR WX. WE SAID NO, AND THEN HE CLRED US DIRECT TO GREEN COUNTY (GCV) REST OF RTE UNCHANGED. WE IMMEDIATELY COMPLIED AND NOTHING FURTHER WAS MENTIONED ABOUT THIS EVENT. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS: 1) IT WAS UNFORTUNATE THAT ACARS RAN OUT OF PAPER AT THIS CRITICAL POINT. 2) IT WAS ALSO UNFORTUNATE THAT THE AIRWAY CHANGE DID NOT SHOW UP ON FLT PLAN ROUTING DUE TO THE *** SECTION. 3) I HAVE BEEN IN THE HABIT OF VERIFYING A PDC WITH THE ONE DELIVERED BY THE GATE AGENT BY COMPARING SQUAWKS AND NOT READING FURTHER. IN THE FUTURE I WILL TAKE MORE TIME IF THERE IS A PROB WITH THE PRINTED PORTION OF THE PDC AND READ THE DOCUMENT CAREFULLY. 4) A WEB SITE TO SUBMIT THIS FORM.
